DESCRIPTION

Herbaceous plant 10 to 30 cm high. Basal leaves usually already faded during flowering; alternate lanceolate cauline leaves adhering without petiole to the stem; garnished at their base with ciliate hair. At the end of the stem, the appearance of several flowers arranged in a loose cluster. Chalice completed in 5 thin lobes; blue campanulate corolla split almost to half in 5 triangular lobes.

HISTORY

The name of Campanula comes from the Latin "campana" = "bell.

HABITAT

Scattered throughout the Alps; lean lawns, mountain pastures, forests and brush; on clay soil rich in humus; between 1000 and 3300 m altitude.

PARTICULARITIES

The species is divided into at least two local subspecies, which can only be distinguished by the shape of the foliar base.

DESCRIPTION

Herbaceous plant, 10 to 40 cm tall, with upright stems generally unbranched and covered with hair. Basal leaves covered with dense hairs too. On the stem, some few alternate stem leaves; at its end, several light blue, sometimes white, inclined flowers arranged in a cluster. Between the 5 sepals are cordiform appendages. The 5 petals are welded into a large small bell with 5 points, and lined with long, clearly visible hairs.

HABITAT

Frequent in all alpine regions; lawns and undergrowth of dwarf shrubs; on low calcareous soils containing humus; between 1000 and 3000 m altitude.

PARTICULARITIES

They are often in the company of Arnicas. The long hairs, all directed in the same direction, which decorate the lobes of the corolla, are characteristic of the Bearded Bellflower.

DESCRIPTION

Herbaceous plant 5 to 20 cm high with a creeping stem, erect at the tip. Rounded basal leaves very long petiolate and with dentate margin. Leaves alternate on the lower part of the elongate stem and toothed margin; on the other hand, leaves upper stemmed aciculate and whole edge. At the end of the stem, appearance of one or more inclined flowers. The 5 light lilac blue petals are soldered in a bell.

Scattered in the northern and southern limestone Alps, often in large numbers; screes, cracks in rocks, pebbles of streams, loose lawns; on moist limestone soils; between 800 and 3000 m altitude.

The basal leaves and cauline leaves of different shapes, as well as the corolla widely deployed at the front characterize the slender Campanula.
