Herbaceous plant from 5 to 30 cm high. Lower part of stems covered with rough hair; oval-oblong leaves with dense hair on both sides. At the end of the stem, several flowers up to about 1cm in diameter, arranged in a dense inflorescence. Hairy chalice finished in 5 thin lobes. Blue petals laid flat with a remarkable yellow ring at the throat of the tubular base of the corolla. At the time of fruiting, the teeth of the calyx curl into a hook shape surrounding the bright black ovoid fruits.

HISTORY

Its name comes from the Greek myos and ous which mean respectively, mouse and ear. The oval and fluffy leaves look like mouse ears. In the language of flowers, it means "don't forget me".

HABITAT

Common in all alpine regions; rock falls, loose lawns and light wooded areas; on moist, nutrient-rich clay soils; between 1500 and 2800 m above sea level.

PARTICULARITIES

The petals of the flower buds of the Alpine Forget-me-not are reddish to purple. Over time, their colour changes to an intense blue.
